Rosewood Amsterdam
Hotel Name: Rosewood Amsterdam
Number of Rooms: 134 rooms and suites, including 41 suites and 5 signature Houses.
Location: Rosewood Amsterdam sits directly on the Prinsengracht, the outermost of Amsterdam's UNESCO-listed canal ring.
For nearly two centuries, the building that is now home to the Rosewood Amsterdam was the city’s Palace of Justice. A decade-long restoration preserved the building's judicial bones and clever design details are integrated throughout (we especially love that pleated headboards nod to barristers' robes, and that Advocatuur, the courthouse-inspired bar named for the city's former lawyers, distills its own jenever in-house). The art collection comprises nearly 1,000 curated pieces, including an art vending machine, dotted through rooms and suites designed by Studio Piet Boon. Below ground, Asaya Spa's 12-metre pool, sauna, and rooftop yoga sessions, but the real luxury here is being located steps from the Nine Streets' boutiques and Jordaan's brown cafés, surrounded by canal-house architecture on every side.
What We Loved: Location, location, location. You’re in the heart of the Jordaan/Nine Streets area, which is one of the city's most walkable, photogenic pockets, lined with 17th-century gabled houses, independent boutiques, and cafés. This is the Amsterdam you’re picturing.
What We Didn’t Love: Historic buildings have their quirks, and there are some room layouts that feel a little constrained by the architectural footprint. (But don’t worry, your Local Foreigner advisor knows which ones work best.)
Right For: With a buzzy bar that’s actually frequented by locals (really), this is the spot for anyone who wants to be in the middle of the action.
Wrong For: Travelers who are looking for something more traditional or who need particularly large rooms may want to check out the Waldorf Astoria.
Best Time to Visit: Late April through May (the seasons which includes tulip season, King's Day, and when the canals are at their prettiest) or September–early October, when weather is mild and the summer crowds have thinned.
TLF Tip: Weekly rooftop yoga and pilates classes are two of the most unique ways to experience the views over the city.
