Situated on St. Barth’s rugged southeastern coast, Le Toiny is a serene hideaway built for romantics. The hilltop property, with its mantle of oleander and flowering hibiscus, features 14 airy suites, each with its own private plunge pool and postcard views of the windswept Cote Sauvage. A palette of creams and whites is studded with coastal accents, like the driftwood coffee tables in the lobby or the oyster shell inlaid bar. Down a steep drive from the main property, the laid-back beach club, with its rattan umbrellas and breezy hammocks, is a masterclass in bohemian chic. The hotel’s eponymous restaurant, touted as one of the best culinary experiences on St Barth’s, is alone worth the drive to this side of the island.

What We Loved: On an island famed for its see-and-be-seen vibe, Le Toiny feels like a well-kept secret. Retreating to an airy perch for a nap by a private plunge pool is our preferred way to wind down after rosé Sundays at Nikki Beach (or rest up before dinner at Le Ti.)

What We Didn’t Love: The hillside location means you’ll have to hop in the property’s Land Rover for a jaunt down to the beach club (but the panoramic views are a pretty nice tradeoff for not being right on the sand.)

Right For: Couples, romantics, privacy seekers, travelers looking to check in and zone out.

Wrong For: If you want to be in the middle of all the models’n’bottles action, we might point you to the buzzier Eden Rock.

Best Time to Visit: December to April – book well in advance (and prepare to stay a while) for Christmas, New Years, and holiday weekends like President’s Day.

TLF Tip: Post-Covid operating updates mean Le Toiny is more private than ever, with its restaurants and beach club only open to guests staying on property. The fitness center will be available for private use – call up the front desk to reserve the whole thing and enjoy your morning free weight circuit with just the ocean breeze for company.
