Cap Juluca
Hotel Name: Belmond Cap Juluca
Number of Rooms: 108
Location: On the picture-perfect sand along Maundays Bay.
Anguilla’s most iconic property, Cap Juluca became a member of the Belmond family in 2018. Revived by the art of Belmond hospitality, the hotel looks better than ever, with interior décor that reflects its iconic Moorish exteriors and Caribbean locale. Arabesque tiles and lantern pendants are meticulously mixed with navy damask and flaxen ropework to create a look that’s uniquely Cap Julucan. Outside, the marshmallow-white sand of Maundays Bay stretches in a perfect crescent, as palm trees strung with hammocks create the quintessential island vibe. On-site dining includes a decades-old island institution, an upscale Italian eatery inspired by the Belmond’s sister property in Venice, and a toes-in-the-sand beach bar that's perfect for sunset cocktails.
What We Loved: We don’t mean to be dramatic, but this might be the best beach in the Caribbean. There’s a magical alchemy to Cap Juluca that results from its combination of luxury (think spa cabanas for massages with a view and suites with private pools) and whimsy (mahi mahi bahn mi from a vintage light blue food truck half buried in the sand, anyone?)
What We Didn’t Love: The service can be shaky now and then, but always comes with a smile; the key here is to make the mental switch to island time.
Right For: Couples, beach bums & sand snobs (be warned - these silky beaches will spoil your toes forever).
Wrong For: Families with energetic kids and travelers who prefer a sleeker aesthetic may want to check out the Four Seasons, just a mile north.
Best Time to Visit: Shake the winter blues with a visit between December and March.
TLF Tip: If you’re keen to rally with the on-property tennis pro, Sean, book your court time along with your stay. He’s popular with guests from all over the island and his schedule can fill as far as a year in advance.
